After a fantastic 2018, here’s looking forward to the movies of 2019. From Salman Khan’s Bharat, Prabhas Saaho, Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl – most awaited films of 2019.
The year 2018 will be remembered for being one of the best for Hindi films, both at the box office as well as in garnering immense acclaim. The year was ruled by content over stardom. Sure Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan saw success but it was truly the year of Ayushmann Khurrana, who delivered two of the most loved films – AndhaDhun and Badhaai Ho. Two films as different as chalk and cheese and that too in a span of just 13 days. There was also the universal hit, Stree starring Rajkummar Rao, Alia Bhatt’s one of its kind espionage thriller Raazi, Sohum Shah’s genre-bending Tumbbad, Shah Rukh Khan’s box office dud but a daring experiment, nevertheless, Zero and the two big blockbusters in Deepika Padukone’s Padmaavat and Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju, among many other great films.
Moving on, the new year too boasts of some great looking films and has the potential to outperform 2018 in terms of both scale as well as unique content. So far, amongst the movies which are announced or the released date has been finalised, it looks like a great blend of big-budget spectacles and small-budget wonders.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at some of the most awaited movies of the year 2019 below:
Bharat-SalmanKhan’s last film Race 3 may have underperformed at the box office and has been trashed by fans and critics alike, his upcoming Eid release, Bharat is still one of the most awaited films of the year. One, it is Salman Khan reuniting with Ali Abbas Zafar for the third time after the blockbusters like Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. And also the reunion of one of the most loved onscreen pairs in Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. The movie is an official remake of South Korean film Ode to My Father and will see the journey of a man and a nation together. The movie features an ensemble of actors like Disha Patani, Tabu, Jackie Shroff and Sunil Grover.
It looks like Ayushmann Khurrana is all set to repeat the crazy success of 2018 with yet another whacky and quirky tale, Dream Girl. While not much is known about the plot of the film, the poster itself looks highly intriguing. The movie also stars Nushrat Bharucha.
This movie was supposed to release last year in December but was pushed to this year due to pending VFX work. Even though the second instalment Double Dhamaal was a bit of an underwhelming affair, we are quite excited for Total Dhamaal. Who wouldn’t love to meet the goofballs that were Adi, Manav and Roy (Boman is missing this time)? And the addition of new cast members like Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Total Dhamaal releases February 22.
Produced by Shah Rukh Khan, Badla as the name suggests seems like a story about revenge. What makes this movie interesting, intriguing and awaited is that it marks the reunion of Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu after the much loved Pink. And is directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Badla is slated for a March 8 release.
Student of the Year 2-
Tiger Shroff’s next film after the blockbuster that was Baaghi 2. A sequel to 2012 hit Student of the Year, that marked the debut of Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra, Student of the Year 2 will see the debut of Tara Sutaria and Chunkey Panday’s daughter Ananya Panday. The movie also features a cameo by Hollywood star Will Smith. Student of the Year 2 releases on May 10.
Touted to be one of its kind period comedy, Housefull 4 will mark the return of Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Chunkey Panday to the hit franchise and will see the addition of Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon, Kriti Kharbanda and Pooja Hegde. The movie is slated for a Diwali 2019 release.
Taanaji – The Unsung Warrior-
Ajay Devgn’s magnum opus, Taanaji – The Unsung Warrior will see him play the character of Subedar Taanaji Malusare, who fought for Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj. The movie also features Saif Ali Khan in the role of a Rajput warrior Udaybhan Rathod, appointed by Jai Singh, chief of Aurangzeb’s Moghul army. Taanaji – The Unsung Warrior is slated for a November 22 release.
